Celebrating Volunteering
April 8, 2008Loads of people in Nottinghamshire give up their spare time to help others, but often volunteers don’t get the recognition they deserve – or the chance to show others what they and their organisations do. So to put this right, Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Council for Voluntary Service (NCVS) have got together to plan a special event called ‘Celebrating Volunteering’. The event will run as part of National Volunteers Week in June with the aim of promoting, recruiting and most importantly, celebrating volunteering.
At the moment, the City Council and NCVS are looking for input and ideas from local voluntary and community groups – in order to make the event as interesting and exciting as possible. The event will take place in the Market Square in Nottingham city centre on the 7th June so hopefully the weather will have brightened up a little by then! The plan is to give voluntary and community groups the chance to promote themselves and their work whether you’d like to have a stall or perhaps run a mini workshop or ‘taster’ for example. In addition, they’ll hopefully be lots of things to keep the public entertained so get your thinking caps on and get your ideas rolling in!
Places are limited so you’ll need to register your interest by Friday 11th April. Simply call Carole Worall on 0115 915 8800 to find out more.
The perfect way to thank your volunteers!
As part of the ‘Celebrating Volunteering’ event, the City Council and NCVS are also planning a very special ‘thank you’ event for volunteers between 3pm-6pm on 8th June. The event will be held at Nottingham Playhouse and you can make sure you get your volunteers a place by calling Carole Worall on 0115 915 8800.

New physio service launched
April 2, 2008The new service will enable patients to refer themselves for physio without having to see a doctor first, making life easier and more convenient for patients, whilst freeing up valuable doctors’ appointments.
As long as patients are over 16 and registered with a GP in the city, they’ll be able to access the service by phoning 0115 883 8300 or by completing a form – available from all GP practices and public buildings across the city. The physiotherapists themselves are located throughout Nottingham too, so patients should be able to visit their nearest one.
Hopefully, this new service will be a big help to anyone in need of musculoskeletal physio, so please make sure you pass the news onto anyone you think may benefit. To find out more you’re welcome to give Parul Jani a ring on 0115 979 1234 or alternatively you can contact the PCT direct by emailing suzanne.aitken@nottinghamcity-pct.nhs.uk
