Heart to Heart

The Nottingham City Primary Care Trust (PCT) are expanding their ‘Heartbeat’ programme; a scheme that helps individuals who have experienced heart problems to improve their fitness. People living in Bulwell and the Arboretum area of the city will now have the chance to take part in ‘Heartbeat’ exercise classes, which are run by qualified fitness instructors, giving them the opportunity to stay fit and healthy whilst meeting people who have gone through similar experiences.

Keeping fit is one of the best ways to prevent heart problems in the future so the PCT are hopeful that expanding the Heartbeat programme will help to improve many people’s quality of life.

The new ‘Heartbeat’ sessions are being delivered in partnership with Nottingham City Council and the YMCA and are available in Bulwell at the Healthy Living Centre on Mondays between 10am – 11.30am and at the All Saints YMCA on Raleigh Street, near the Arboretum, on Wednesdays between 6pm – 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in attending must be referred by their GP or Practice Nurse.

New members will receive a free pedometer and will also be offered support and a mentor to attend the classes with, if they wish. To find out more call Paul Dodsley on 0115 883 4237 or visit www.getmovingnottingham.nhs.uk/heartbeats
